As of right now, I plan on majoring in Neuroscience or Cognitive science because I want to possibly pursue a career in the medical field. I am fascinated by the way our brain works and how the tiniest connections are crucial to our survival. I aspire to become a doctor one day. Although I am not sure what type of physician right now, I know that I would want to become a specialist and possibly take part in research.
Antonio Damasio is a Portuguese- American neuroscientist. He is currently a Professor of Neuroscience, Psychology, and philosophy at University of Southern California as well as an adjunct professor at the Salk Institute. He did his neurological residency and completed his residency at the University of Lisbon Medical School. As a medical student, he was required to complete residency. In five words, he is a driven, dedicated, passionate, educated, and well-established individual. I chose this person because I applied to University of Southern California, so I thought it would be interesting to learn about a professor of the major I intend on earning a degree in. I like how he chose to specialize on the neural systems which underlie emotion, decision-making, memory, language and conciousness. I feel that neuroscience can be a particularly broad topic, and I ,too, would be interested in learning about more specific functions of the brain.
